FCI Oakdale (2) is a low security federal prison housing only adult male inmates charged for violating federal laws. The usual period of conviction is more than one year and most of the population have committed white-collar crimes.

It was opened in 2004 and has two units- one the main FCI building, and an attatched satellite camp(low security). Both combined have a max capacity of about 1500 prisoners. Main FCI building has 6 units comprised of multiple 2 and 4 person pods.

It has inhouse medical,dental,and psychological services. Emergency medical care is available 24 hrs a day. Educational support in the form of GED program is available. It has a partially-featured library too. Apprenticeships in horticulture, building, and trade are available. There is a UNICOR facility providing clothing and textiles.

Visitation Rules

FCI Oakdale allows traditional physical visits of upto 5 times per month. Each visit consumes one point. All visitors must be registered in inmate’s pre-approved list. Children may be allowed visits but accompanied by guardian. If somebody is not in pre-approved list, then call the jail beforehand to get special permission from warden. Visits are allowed only on weekends as per schedule given below.

Sending a Mail/Package

Inmates can receive letters, photos, and packages (with prior approval). Inmates may send letters too. But all letters/parcel are opened or scanned before delivering to inmate.

Sending Money

Money can be sent directly to inmate’s commissary account via Moneygram ExpressPayment, and Western Union Quick Collect electronic deposit. Before sending money, you need to have BOP number, inmate full name, and prison name.

Family/friends may send money but you cannot send them directl to facility address. Instead send them to processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. Money orders may be sent to the following address. Don not forget to write the inmate name and BOP inmate ID clearly on envelope.

Money order takes a long processing time of about 2-4 weeks. Hence its better to send money via electronic channels. Currently two methods are in use, Moneygram ExpressPayment, and Western Union Quick Collect electronic deposit. NB- There’s a transfer charge for online payments.

Phone calls

Inmates can call any person in their approved list from the jail phone. Phone calls are charged by the minute and distance. It has to be borne by the inmate. Inmates may be allowed a max of 300 minutes per calendar month.
